Boosting Sportsmanship through Premier League Primary Stars
Nottingham Forest Community Trust work with 19 partner Primary Schools as part of its Premier League Primary Stars programme delivering a range of education and sport-based activities.
Coaches offer classroom support in key subjects such as English and Maths, and lead on PE delivery, with sports ranging from football and cricket to athletics and dance.
Porchester Junior School based in Carlton, Nottingham, has been a part of PLPS since the launch of the programme 5 years ago. Our PLPS Lead Coach Isaac Kemp looks after delivery at Porchester and has highlighted one student in particular who has benefitted massively from the programme.
Leighton, a year 3 pupil at the school has shown an improvement in high behaviour and sportsmanship.
Leighton said, “My behaviour has improved since I’ve been working with Isaac and I have learnt how to play games more nicely, I have also learnt sports leadership.”
“I feel more confident taking part in a variety of sports, especially ones that I have never tried before. I now want to do boxing, football and basketball on a regular basis.”
Isaac added, “Leighton’s behaviour has seen a huge improvement, not only in classroom but also during PE sessions and his sportsmanship is exemplary.”
Isaac continued, “He’s shown dedication and has approached PE lessons with a great attitude by trying out new sports, even if at first he found them challenging.”
Isaac has been supporting the children at Porchester, including Leighton, by teaching them sports leadership skills that they can take beyond their school P.E lessons. Isaac has been able to instil leadership skills within the children that gives them confidence when taking part in PE lessons.
Leighton’s success brings to life the PLPS values of Be Kind, Be Inspiring, Be Fair and Be Connected.
