Bradley discovers a love for reading.

As part of our Premier League Primary Stars, Wainwright Primary School have engaged in our specialised Reading Stars programme. The Reading Stars programme is a 6 week intervention programme with the aim of using the power of football to engage children to read more as well as whom may find the subject trickier than others. Over the course of the 6 weeks, they learn different skills to help with their reading as well as different texts that they can read from.

At first Bradley was unsure about the session as he didn’t particularly  like football nor reading. However, week by week, his engagement during the session grew as well as confidence with the skill of reading.  By the last week, it was hard to let Bradley answer a question as he was that enthusiastic about the sessions.

His teacher had also seen a difference in his attitude towards reading, they noticed that he looked forwards to the next reading stars session and it was soon becoming a highlight of his week.

Bradley told us: “I look forwards to the Reading Star’s session with Miss Haynes. I’ve enjoyed learning something different each week and it has made me more excited to read.  Learning the 5 finger rule has helped me to pick the right book to read.”

Megan Haynes, PLPS Head Coach added: “Bradley is always engaged during our session’s and is always one of the first to put his hand up to answer. I’ve seen his confidence grow each week with the different terminology we learn. It’s fantastic to hear that because of our session’s,  he wants to read more.”
