Divines Story | Anti-reader, now top achiever
Divine is one of those boys who loves football, you can see his love for the game when he talks about his matches from the weekend. But unfortunately, when you spoke about reading and writing, the same love did not come across. This has been noticed by the school with his lack of reading at home.
The school and his class teacher wanted to improve Divine’s enthusiasm for reading and writing so Divine started working alongside our Premier League Primary Stars coach. For 45 minutes in the morning our coach has been in school, working through our bespoke Reading Stars Booklet with Divine who, although initially hesitant, began to show signs of improvement straight away. Divine and our coach set goals/targets for Divine to try and achieve, and as weeks went by we began to see even more progression, with Divine now taking it upon himself to surpass expectations and reach bigger goals. One of his targets was to do more reading at home, which Divine now does 5 to 6 times a week. Divine has embodied the Premier League Primary Stars values of being ambitious with his goal and target setting and also inspired the rest of his class to read more and enjoy it at home.
“I really like the programme. It’s was great to see improvement in my reading quickly and it motivated me to keep going.” – Divine Emmanuel, Premier League Primary Stars Participant
“Divine have shown great enthusiasm towards the programme. He’s really focused during our sessions and is showing amazing progression in his reading and writing. This is a reflection on the amount of books he now reads at home, which he incredibly manages to keep increasing week by week on his own accord. He’s a great example of how the Premier League Primary Stars programme can inspire pupils to learn and develop.” – Tom Norton, Premier League Primary Stars Head Coach
