Last week was the English Schools’ FA annual ‘Schools Football Week’. The campaign which took place from the 3rd-7th February, was a fantastic opportunity to highlight the extent of School’s football in England. The week was also a great way for schools up and down the country to display the amazing talent of dedication of pupils and coaches in their school. The event of course promotes the benefits of football such as increased activity, teamworking skills, resilience building and a sense of pride for pupils representing their school.

The ESFA said they “want to use this opportunity to promote how important Schools’ Football is for children in England as well as all he related benefits of taking part in this type of physical activity.” Nottingham Forest Community Trust were eager to get on board with this campaign, accelerated by our recent partnership with the Nottinghamshire Schools’ Football Association.

The week was packed full of events! Starting with a tournament at The Forest Sports Zone attended by local schools which engaged a total of 6 teams. The tournament was a fantastic way for local schools to take part in some friendly competition whilst being active. The pupils even got a very special visit from brand new first team signing Nuno Da Costa.

The pupils had the opportunity to ask Da Costa many questions and he gave the next generation plenty of fantastic advice! The striker then had a walk around, checking out some of the amazing football skills that were on show during the tournament!

Friday saw the biggest event of the week which was a mixed football tournament for schools at the Newark YMCA Community and Activity Village. The day saw a total of 27 schools participate with teams of girls and boys it was another great opportunity for local schools to socialise and be active. Every team showed amazing teamwork throughout the day however, it was Sir Donald Bailey Academy who took home the win and the community schools’ cup!

Thank to all of the other schools who took part in English Schools’ Football Week with us and a massive well done for getting involved and tagging us on social media!
