Since we started our new Covid-safe sports activities as part of our Premier League Kicks programme, Jack has been attending one of our sessions every single week.

Our new foot golf, foot tennis and fitness activity sessions follow strict government guidelines and social distancing rules to allow boys and girls aged 8-16 to get out of the house, have some fun, meet new friends and keep fit.

Jack was recommended to join the session by one of our coaches, Dante who said, “‘Ive known Jack and his family from a young age, I always see him at the Forest games. When we started these new activities I knew they’d be something that Jack would enjoy, so I let his mum know. It’s been great to see just how well he’s getting on at the sessions and how much fun he’s having with everyone.” We now see Jack as part of our team, he’s made friends with both our coaches and participants, he helps others and we have seen some amazing progression in his football ability.

We caught up with Jack’s mum to see what she had to say…

What do you think about the activities on the sessions?
Our son Jack has Downs Syndrome and has absolutely loved them. Like many children all of Jack’s footballing activities were stopped during lockdown. His life is mainly football. From going to watch forest week in week out to playing and training with Burton Joyce Downs Syndrome team and Expro. These still haven’t returned so these Sessions that you are running have helped Jack get back out in the fresh air getting exercise and socialising again.

What do you think about the safety measures in place at the sessions?
Jack says he feels really safe and he puts on hand gel before and after foot golf. As a parent the sessions have been made really safe, Temperature taken before your child is allowed to start, hand gel before and after the sessions, footballs cleaned before and after and social distancing in place.

Has Jack made any friends since coming to the sessions?
Yes Jack has become friends with a few people on the sessions

If Jack didn’t attend these sessions what would he doing?
Jack would be either watching TV, playing on his xbox or his phone.

Have you had any opportunities to take part in activity during COVID-19?
No, both of Jacks football teams still haven’t returned since Lockdown.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Jack has thoroughly enjoyed his time with the Community Trust team. He has enjoyed getting to know them all and he has lots of fun with them. He has felt very welcomed and included in all of the sessions that he has attended and looks forward to doing them. Thank you so much for giving Jack this opportunity to get him involved in sports which he enjoys doing so much.
