Our Premier League Kicks programme engages young people from some of the most high need areas across Nottingham, providing them with free constructive activities every week, including a wide variety of sports, coaching, music and educational and personal development sessions. Not only does the initiative provide outlets for youngsters but it also comes with incredible opportunities like this one.
Nottingham Forest Community Trust’s Kicks team were invited to attend The Premier League Kicks World Cup Tournament 2018 where they would get to compete against other Kicks teams across the country on Stoke City FC’s pitch! We chose 7 lucky participants from a range of our Kicks sessions to take part.
The boys were representing Costa Rica in a very competitive group but they managed to overcome every team and they headed into the last 16 unbeaten. We were drawn against Mexico and after scoring a late equaliser in a thrilling 1-1 draw the game went to penalties where unfortunately, we just missed out. It was a great experience and we were very proud of the boys, they bonded really well as a team and showed great sportsmanship throughout.
