Premier League Primary Stars

Inspire your pupils. Engage your classrooms. Make a lasting impact.

Premier League Primary Stars is the Premier League’s primary school education programme. Funded by the Premier League through the Premier League Foundation, the programme uses the appeal of football to help children be active and develop essential life skills.

Launched in 2017, and available to every primary school in England and Wales, Nottingham Forest Community Trust is one of more than 104 professional football club charities across England and Wales delivering Premier League Primary Stars, supporting pupils in the classroom, the playground and on the sports field.

There have been more than 20 million attendances by primary school pupils at club-led sessions to date.

Premier League Primary Stars enables teachers to use resources across English, PSHE, PE and Maths, to support children to develop skills and values that are crucial to success in later life.

Nottingham Forest Community Trust began its Premier League Primary Stars delivery in 2017 and since then has supported thousands of young people.

The free programme also provides teachers and parents with access to more than 650 downloadable resources across a range of curriculum subjects at Key Stage 1 (age 5-7) and Key Stage 2 (age 7-11), developed by teachers for teachers, and in collaboration with experts such as the National Literacy Trust.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

PHYSICAL EDUCATION & TEACHER CPD

We don’t just “cover” planning, preparation, and assessment timeline; we upskill your workforce.

  • High-Quality PE: Our lead coaches are Level 2 Sports Delivery and HLTA Level 3/4 Extended in Sport qualified. These coaches deliver the whole curriculum, everything from traditional invasion games to dance, gymnastics, and yoga.
  • Sustainable Teacher CPD: We use a mentoring model, where our specialists work alongside your staff to increase their confidence, knowledge, and skills in delivering the PE National Curriculum.
  • Inclusive Sport: Tailored sessions for SEND pupils, ensuring every child – regardless of ability – experiences the joy of being active.

Core Subject & Interventions (English & Maths)

We use football as the hook to engage learners who struggle in a traditional classroom setting.

  • Premier League Reading Stars: A 10-week evidence-based intervention. Data shows that 3 in 4 pupils make six months of reading progress in just 10 weeks through this football-themed literacy programme.
  • Career Mode Maths: We bring numeracy to life using real-world Premier League data – calculating league tables, player stats, and stadium capacities to make maths relatable and fun.

PSHE & WELLBEING

We help pupils navigate life’s challenges using the Premier League Values: Be Ambitions, Be Inspiring, Be Connected, and Be Fair.

  • Mental Health Support: Specialised mental health workshops that teach resilience, self-esteem, and emotional regulation.
  • Anti-Discrimination: No Room for Racism workshops that empower pupils to become active allies and understand equality.
  • Social Action: Supporting pupils to lead their own community projects, such as the Planet Super League environmental challenge.

OUR SUCCESSES

Growth through Football and Mentorship

Through the Nottingham Forest Community Trust’s Premier League Primary Stars programme, students Justice and Justin have undergone a significant personal transformation, moving from behavioural challenges to becoming reflective leaders at Nottingham Academy.

Guided by the mentorship of Lead Coach Ben, the boys have learned to channel their competitive nature positively, improving their emotional regulation and social skills both in the classroom and on the football pitch. This success story illustrates the power of sport-based intervention, where the consistent presence of positive role models helps young people build the resilience and confidence necessary for long-term academic and personal growth.
