Pupils engage with Think Big Ambassador
Year 10 pupils from The Suthers Academy recently had the opportunity to speak to one of Nottingham Forest’s Think Big Ambassadors Callum as they engaged in a Q&A session with Nottingham Forest Community Trust’s Finance & Administration Coordinator.
Ambassador Q&As provide pupils with opportunities to speak to a range of individuals at Nottingham Forest and Ideagen who work in various roles and sectors. Q&As are designed to give students real life insights into different people’s career paths, how they got into their current role and what a day in the world of work at a Premier League football club or Global tech company looks like.
The pupils came prepared to the session, loaded with a wealth of questions directed at Callum who shared with them an overview of his daily duties, which involve taking care of contracts, payroll, invoicing, and payments to ensure the Nottingham Forest Community Trust runs smoothly. Callum also explained that his job requires him to be highly organised, precise, detail-oriented, and capable of multitasking, as he handles a large volume of tasks and uses various software packages and spreadsheets throughout the week.
Think Big Ambassadors offer pupils insight into real-life stories, experiences, and challenges, and each ambassador has their own story to tell. Callum’s talk highlighted the importance of having a plan and a goal, and he emphasised the many avenues of support available to help students achieve their career aspirations.
Callum himself faced a significant challenge when he was excluded from secondary school in Year 7. However, he was able to overcome this obstacle and work his way up to the role he is in now by staying focused, remaining adaptable, and building trust with his colleagues and employers.
Callum said, “The session with the pupils has hopefully given them a real insight into what a day of work looks like for me. It’s certainly been a great experience for me being a Think Big Ambassador.”
He continued, “My story of how I got to where I am isn’t necessarily as linear as you’d expect and I myself have faced a number of challenges. I hope the pupils took this on board as they look to make future career choices and inspire the next generation of workers and leaders.”
Schools and Academies who participate in the Think Big programme have access to over 40 individual Think Big Ambassadors from across Nottingham Forest and Ideagen and are encouraged to book in Q&A sessions with ambassadors who they can hand pick from the Think Big website and cover various departments.
