Once a month Nottingham Forest Community Trust would usually provide and event for our local veterans as part of our Forest Forces programme.
Forest Forces is a programme designed to tackle social isolation and engagement with veterans in our local communities. We provide a range of monthly activities such as coffee mornings, comedy nights, day trips and so much more. We also have relationships with other charitable organisations across the region and have held events whereby veterans across the east midlands can get together.
Since we are unable to provide these events due to ‘lockdown’ circumstances we have been doing whatever we can to try and engage and support our veterans during these difficult times. From weekly conversations over the phone and via email to see how they are, to online virtual quiz’s we think its vital to help those that need it the most.
Although we are consistently trying to support our veterans whilst staying at home, we wanted to give them an extra boost during these difficult times so we went out and delivered a Nottingham Forest care package for them. We got them each a Nottingham Forest home shirt with their names printed on the back and delivered them personally to their doors where we were able to have a 2 metre catch up with them to see how they were all getting on.
It was great to see everyone and we’re glad it lifted the spirits of local veterans like Maggie who said, “Just seeing a friendly face and a chat in these difficult times was lovely. It’s given me such a lift today after a very hard week and it was such a lovely thing to do.”
