Premier League Kicks is a free programme, giving 12-24 year old’s across Nottinghamshire the opportunity to play football & other multi-sport activities. The aim of these sessions are to engage, inspire & educate young children and adults, using the power of football and the value of sports participation to help hard-to-reach youngsters in some of the most high-need areas.
Herman, is a long time participant of one of our sessions at Ellis Guilford who was this year given the opportunity to join our Premier League Kicks team to take part in their national tournament. We caught up with him to talk about his experience with our programme…
What do you like about Premier League Kicks?
‘I think Kicks is so enjoyable, it really helps all sorts of kids to come out and play football together with people they might not usually play with. Plus, it’s all for free!’
What would you be doing if you weren’t at Kicks?
‘I’d be trying to play football somewhere with my mates, but we didn’t really have anywhere to play, we’d just be kicking it about on the street or on a park or paying for a session somewhere.’
Do you like the coaches on your Kicks sessions?
‘Yeah the coaches are so funny man. Alex is a funny coach and Dante is my guy, it’s just a shame he’s always waffling!’
You were given the opportunity to go the national Premier League Kicks Cup this year, what was that like?
‘It was such a good experience, it was a great tournament, I thought we played really well, and I made new some new friends from other Kicks sessions. I hope I get to do it again.’
Have you learned anything from our Kicks sessions and if so, what?
‘I learnt how football can bring people together and to talk to people you might not usually. It’s helped me express myself more and try new stuff, skills and that.’
Have you encouraged other people to attend Kicks?
‘I basically told everyone from my school to come down because of how good it is, I told them its free football for 2 hours on a decent pitch and now we’ve got loads of people here.’
Why do you keep coming back to Kicks?
‘I just want to keep playing football with my friends and improve. It makes me happy coming here.’
