Youth Lead the Way in Community Fundraising Walk

At Nottingham Forest Community Trust, we are dedicated to giving back to our community and supporting those who need us. One of our standout initiatives, the Premier League Kicks Programme, harnesses the power of football to engage young people and provide them with opportunities to develop both on and off the pitch.

Off the pitch, we empower our young participants through Social Action and Youth Voice Projects. This year, we are excited to highlight an outstanding initiative where six young people took on the challenge of walking 25 kilometres (approximately 15.5 miles) around Nottingham. They completed the walk in 6 hours, 45 minutes, and 47 seconds, taking in over 41,200 steps. Their mission? To raise funds for community initiatives and develop their leadership, organisational, and personal development skills.

The funds raised from this 15.5-mile walk will be directed towards an event entirely organised and managed by the young participants. This hands-on experience is designed to help them develop essential skills that will benefit them in various aspects of life.

We planned the route for this inspiring walk, which encompassed scenic paths around the River Trent, Beeston Canal, Colwick Loop and The City Ground. The walk commenced at 10:00 AM on Saturday 1st June, and concluded around 4:45 PM.

Oscar Ridley, Nottingham Forest Community Trust, Premier League Kicks Coach said,  “Our young people have shown incredible determination and leadership in completing this challenge. Their hard work and dedication in raising money will fund a fantastic community event organised by the participants themselves, helping them develop valuable life skills.”

The ultimate goal of this initiative is to challenge our young people to raise funds that they will then use for a community project of their choice, such as organising a Family Fun Day. This endeavour not only raises money for worthy causes but also instills a sense of responsibility, teamwork, and community spirit in our participants.

At Nottingham Forest Community Trust, we believe in the power of youth to drive positive change, and our Premier League Kicks Programme exemplifies this commitment.
