Celebrating Aspiring Female Leaders at PGL Residential

As part of the Premier League Inspires programme, Nottingham Forest Community Trust recently hosted a three-day residential event at PGL for a group of pupils from Kirkby Outwood Academy and Nottingham University Samworth Academy (NUSA). This residential was a celebratory conclusion to a 12-week social action programme aimed at developing aspiration and leadership among young females.

Over the past three months, these pupils have participated in various activities and workshops designed to build their confidence, ambition, and leadership skills. The programme’s focus has been on empowering young females to envision and strive for a brighter future, equipping them with the tools and mindset needed to achieve their goals.

The residential at PGL served as both a reward and a continuation of this developmental journey. The diverse range of activities provided at PGL further enhanced the girls’ aspirations and teamwork abilities. Participants engaged in challenges such as rock climbing, abseiling, archery, axe throwing, zip lining, and disc golf. Each activity was carefully chosen to push the boundaries of the students’ comfort zones, encouraging them to overcome fears, build trust, and support one another.

Throughout the three days, the pupils displayed remarkable growth, demonstrating enhanced self-confidence, resilience, and a stronger sense of community. The residential not only celebrated their accomplishments over the past 12 weeks but also reinforced the core values of aspiration and leadership that the Premier League Inspires programme strives to instil.

Max McLeod, Nottingham Forest Community Trust Community Lead Coach said, “The activities at PGL provided the girls with invaluable life skills, from teamwork and resilience to problem-solving and leadership. These experiences go beyond the classroom, helping them build confidence and aspiration in a fun, supportive environment. The benefits they’ve gained here will undoubtedly contribute to their personal and academic growth, paving the way for a bright future.”

The impact of the residential on the pupils was significant, with many sharing their personal experiences. One participant highlighted the courage required to tackle challenges: “I got to face my fears.” Another reflected on newfound self-assurance: “I gained confidence in things I wouldn’t usually do.” The ability to overcome personal barriers was a common theme, with comments such as, “The ability to overcome my fears” and “Face your fears because you’ll always have a good outcome.” The event also created stronger relationships, as one pupil noted, “It let me bond with my friends.”

The Nottingham Forest Community Trust is immensely proud of the achievements of these young pupils. The success of the PGL residential is a testament to their hard work, determination, and the supportive environment created by the Premier League Inspires programme. By providing opportunities for young females to develop crucial life skills, the Trust continues to make a positive impact on the community, paving the way for the next generation of leaders.
