Defeat in the Cup

A massive cup game was next on the agenda for the Reds as they host a Newcastle side thriving in their league currently; hoping to make up the miles travelled with a win and a spot in the next round.

KICK OFF

An early lead for the away side, just what they would’ve wanted and the opposite for the Reds. A short corner is cleared out from Forest, and as the defence try to step up from the corner there was no communication, and a straight through ball beats the attempted interception. This gifts the Newcastle man plenty of time to place his finish past the goalkeeper giving him no chance.

Nottingham Forest 0 – 1 Newcastle United

A response from the Reds gets them back in the game and it’s Forest’s no.8 picking up the goal. A long looping ball is played by the Forest centre back and is not dealt with well by the Newcastle backline. The fullback ends up under hitting a back pass to the goalkeeper, throwing bate to the Forest no.8 and he takes it by wrapping the ball into the top left corner.

Nottingham Forest 1 – 1 Newcastle United

A throw-in is turned into a poor cross which surprisingly finds it way to the back post. From there it is too easy to find no.10 in black and white as the Forest centre back decides to step off him maybe not knowing he is there. After he receives the ball a simple finish is required from such short distance putting Newcastle up. United are back in the lead, Forest will be disappointed to concede in this fashion.

Nottingham Forest 1 – 2 Newcastle United

A long clearance finds the Newcastle no.9 whom out-duels the Forest centre back knocking it down to his teammate who slips in a direct pass in behind putting the winger through on goal. A couple of blocks and saves initially keeps the ball out until it finds the Newcastle no.11 with all the time in the world to strike the ball into the top right corner giving the Forest keeper no chance yet again. The lead is extended to 2 and Forest have given themselves another mountain to climb in a crucial match.

Nottingham Forest 1 – 3 Newcastle United

HALF TIME

A Newcastle full back breezes past midfielders and plays a delicate pass splitting the centre backs and finding the no.11. in front of the goal the attacker pokes it past the keeper and the attempted off the line clearance from the Forest defender. A 4th for Newcastle, securing their lead with not long left in the game. Another goal the Forest defenders will not want to see again as the simplicity of the move will be leaving the manager questioning how it ended up in the back of the net.

Nottingham Forest 1 – 4 Newcastle United

A consolation towards the end of the game will prove to be too little too late for Forest. As a long kick is sent by the Forest keeper finding the Reds’ no.9 who produces a beautiful bit of skill to cut inside on to his favoured left foot. He then finishes off the move with a low powerful shot which beats the keeper forcefully.

Nottingham Forest 2 – 4 Newcastle United

FULL TIME

NOTTINGHAM FOREST 2 – 4 NEWCASTLE UNITED

An all-round disappointing performance from the Reds as the Magpies leave with a place in the RO16. Forest’s focus will now be to push for the league as they currently sit 2nd behind West Brom.
