Black History Month: Louie

In the final instalment of our Black History Month series, we introduce Louie, a pupil engaged with Nottingham Forest Community Trust’s Think Big programme.

This initiative, delivered in partnership with Ideagen, empowers young people to think beyond conventional boundaries, encouraging them to aspire toward ambitious goals.

Louie reflects on what Black History Month means to him, shares his admiration for a Black footballer, and discusses his aspirations for the future.

What does Black History Month mean to you?

“For me, Black History Month is about recognition—it’s a chance for the incredible achievements of Black people to be seen and celebrated.

“There’s a lot of focus sometimes on struggles and challenges, but Black History Month brings the positives forward.

“It’s a reminder of all the contributions that Black people have made across history and in our own communities.”

Is there a Black footballer who has inspired or influenced you?

“A Black footballer who’s inspired me is Ola Aina. I watch him every week, and he leaves everything out there on the pitch.

“He’s dedicated, and it shows. Plus, he’s got a great sense of humour and brings that energy to the changing room.

“Watching him reminds me that football is not only about talent but also about personality and character.

“Seeing someone like that reminds me of the importance of enjoying what you do and connecting with the people around you.”

What are your goals in life?

“My main goal is to be successful, whatever that looks like. I have a few ideas: I’d love to start my own barbering business, maybe travel and visit different places to learn about new cultures.

“Getting out there, seeing the world, and learning from others is important to me.

“Whether it’s in business or in travel, I want to keep pushing myself to grow and experience new things.”
