Multisport Festival Brings New Sporting Experiences to Nottingham Pupils
Over 120 primary and secondary school children took part in a high-energy Multisport Festival this month – a brand-new initiative developed through a partnership between Nottingham Forest Community Trust, Notts Gymnastics Academy (NGA), and Beeston Hockey Club (BHC).
Hosted across Rushcliffe Spencer Academy which is also home to Notts Gymnastics Academy, the event welcomed children from six schools throughout the day.
Primary pupils from Nottingham Academy, Sneinton C of E, and Jesse Gray Primary School joined in the morning, with secondary pupils from Rushcliffe Spencer Academy, Farnborough Spencer Academy, and East Leake Academy arriving in the afternoon.

Schools were invited based on their partnership with the Premier League Primary Stars (PLPS) programme and through local connections with Notts Gymnastics Academy.
Importantly, each school was asked to select pupils who might not usually have the chance to take part in extracurricular sports – ensuring the event provided fresh, inclusive opportunities for all participants.
“This is the first collaborative initiative between the three of us and it was a fantastic day,” said Megan, Premier League Primary Stars Coordinator at Nottingham Forest Community Trust.
“All of the participants left with big smiles on their faces and thoroughly enjoyed each sport, especially those they may not have taken part in before.”

The festival featured coached football, gymnastics and hockey sessions, each delivered by professionals. From BHC, Gareth Griffiths, Wales Senior international and Harry Croft, Great Britain and England international led the hockey stations, while Notts Gymnastics were supported by British Olympian Sam Oldham.
A Bronze medalist at the London 2012 Olympic Games, Sam is a former Notts Gymnast who now dedicates his time to delivering gymnastics and mentoring sessions in schools. Drawing on his own lived experiences, including his journey through elite sport and managing ADHD.

“The smiles on the kids’ faces and their positive feedback made all the work worthwhile,” said Bobby Oldham, Facilities and Community Manager at NGA.
“It just shows what can be achieved when organisations come together with a shared goal. This was about giving children an opportunity they might not otherwise get and that definitely happened.”
“This event shows the power of partnerships,” added Bobby.
“A huge thank you to Nottingham Forest Community Trust, Beeston Hockey Club, Rushcliffe Spencer Academy’s PE Department, Field Sports Management for access to their pavilion, and of course the schools and students. On to the next one – hopefully in July!”
Notts Gymnastics Academy continues to be a hub of excellence, home to Olympic athletes Sam Oldham, Ellie Downie, and Beckie Downie, as well as multiple British champions. With Beeston Hockey Club and their international pedigree, this partnership brings elite-level inspiration and opportunity to young people who may not otherwise get the chance.
