Prioritising Mental Wellbeing Through Community and Connection
In a time when more people than ever are feeling the strain of daily life, Healthy Horizon hubs offer a lifeline by creating safe, supportive spaces where mental health is treated with the same importance as physical fitness.
Funded by the Premier League and the Professional Footballers’ Association, the hubs provide a welcoming environment for individuals to prioritise their wellbeing.
While group exercise and healthy eating remain core to the programme, it is the focus on mental resilience and emotional support that sets the Healthy Horizon hubs’ approach apart.

Participants benefit from structured mindfulness sessions and resilience workshops designed to help manage stress, reduce anxiety, and build lasting self-confidence.
One of the most impactful elements is the open, stigma-free space created for conversations about mental health. These sessions encourage people to speak honestly about how they’re feeling, listen without judgment, and realise they are not alone.

“Mental health support shouldn’t feel clinical or intimidating,” says Colin Eley, Health and Wellbeing Manager at Nottingham Forest Community Trust.
“What we’ve created with Healthy Horizons is a community-first approach, somewhere people feel safe to talk, to take part in gentle activity, and to build routines that support their long-term wellbeing.”

Mental health support is woven throughout the delivery of the hubs. Whether it’s a quiet moment of reflection during a mindfulness exercise or a spontaneous conversation over a cup of tea, the environment develops trust, inclusion, and connection. Many participants have spoken about the positive impact of simply having somewhere to go each week where they feel heard, supported, and part of something bigger.

At the heart of the Healthy Horizon hubs is the belief that everyone deserves the tools and support to take care of their mind as well as their body. By creating inclusive, community-led spaces that focus on connection, confidence, and compassion, the hubs are helping people move from just getting by to truly thriving.
