Think Big Expands Accessibility with Widgit Integration
The Think Big programme, delivered by Nottingham Forest Community Trust in partnership with Ideagen, is taking another big step forward in accessibility and inclusion with the introduction of Widgit software across its delivery.
As part of a commitment to ensuring that every young person can engage fully in its workshops and activities, Think Big has adopted Widgit Symbols, a visual communication system that uses simple, colourful symbols alongside text to make written information easier to understand.

Widgit is designed to support people who experience communication barriers, including those with special educational needs, language delays, or lower literacy levels. By combining words with clear and consistent imagery, the software helps learners to recognise meaning, follow instructions, and build confidence when reading or communicating ideas.
“Think Big is all about giving young people the skills and confidence to succeed and that means making sure everyone can access and engage with our content,” said Dan Fisher, Think Big Coordinator. “We’re always looking for ways to improve how we deliver our sessions, and Widgit gives us a brilliant opportunity to make our materials even more inclusive.
“By using Widgit Symbols, we can ensure that key tech-focused themes are communicated clearly and confidently to every participant, regardless of how they best receive information. It’s about removing barriers and giving every young person the chance to contribute, learn and thrive.”

The Think Big team has been preparing to roll out the new software in schools over the coming weeks. Once fully integrated, the team will be able to create symbol-supported resources such as worksheets, presentations and activity prompts. The software works seamlessly alongside existing session materials, enabling staff to tailor resources to meet the needs of each group they work with.
Nottingham Forest Community Trust is committed to ensuring all students can benefit from engaging in the Think Big programme, regardless of ability. The Trust regularly works with schools beyond the mainstream environment and is proud to collaborate with local Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) schools to deliver the programme. This inclusive approach ensures as many young people as possible have the opportunity to take part, be inspired, and develop key skills for the future.
By introducing Widgit, Think Big continues to break down barriers and make education – with a focus on technology- more inclusive, ensuring that every student, regardless of their learning needs, can take part, share their voice, and think big about their future.
