Forest Remembers

This Remembrance Weekend, Nottingham Forest paid a powerful tribute to our Armed Forces community across both the Men’s Premier League fixture and the Women’s WSL2 fixture.

The weekend’s events served as a poignant reminder of the Club and Community Trust’s commitment to the veterans of the Forest Forces programme, an initiative delivered by Nottingham Forest Community Trust that is dedicated to combating social isolation and supporting wellbeing in the local community.

Throughout the year, Forest Forces provides veterans with a safe, welcoming environment where they can connect with others, access wellbeing support, and take part in a range of physical and social activities. From coffee mornings and walking football to trips, workshops, and other opportunities, the programme helps former service personnel build confidence, gain a sense of belonging, and stay active within their community.

The City Ground was the centrepiece of the Act of Remembrance before Forest’s 3-1 Premier League victory over Leeds United. Prior to kick-off, a group of veterans from the Forest Forces programme, alongside serving members of The Mercian Regiment, took to the touchline.

The ceremony featured the playing of The Last Post by Luke Pallister and the traditional wreath-laying conducted by former Royal Marine Ben Lukowski and Captain Marc Giles CGC, who proudly led the teams out of the tunnel.

The club-wide commitment continued at the City Ground on Monday evening, where veterans from the Forest Forces programme also attended the Nottingham Forest Women vs Birmingham City Women fixture. The Last Post was played by The Salvation Army Nottingham bugler, Paul Cuthbert.

Brian Dacunha, Forest Forces Coordinator, said: “Seeing the entire Forest family, from the fans to both teams, pay tribute to our veterans was incredibly moving.

“We are immensely proud of the community we have built through Forest Forces. This weekend proves that the club stands firmly behind those who served, ensuring their dedication is honoured and their transition to civilian life is fully supported. This is exactly what the programme is about.”

We will remember them.
