A Memorable Visit to The City Ground
Participants from Nottingham Forest Community Trust’s Healthy Horizons and Memory Club recently enjoyed an unforgettable day at The City Ground. The visit included a tour of the Nottingham Forest Museum, a meet-and-greet with first-team defender Harry Toffolo, and a special Q&A session with former club captain and European Cup winner John McGovern.
The day began with a walk-through Forest’s rich history at the museum, where lifelong fans relived iconic moments from the Brian Clough era. The Q&A session with McGovern was a highlight, as he shared captivating stories of his time at the club, including winning two European Cups under Clough. Surrounded by memorabilia, attendees were immersed in nostalgia as McGovern’s tales brought the club’s storied past to life.

Later, Harry Toffolo joined the group, engaging with fans, signing autographs, and posing for photos. As the PFA Community Champion for 2023/24, Toffolo’s presence highlighted his dedication to Nottingham Forest Community Trust’s life-changing programmes.
Healthy Horizons and Memory Club are initiatives supported by the Premier League Charitable Fund and The PFA, offering vital support to the community. Healthy Horizons focuses on improving physical and mental wellbeing through activities such as group exercise, mindfulness, and social interaction. Memory Club provides a safe space for individuals with memory-related challenges, offering stimulating activities designed to enhance cognitive function and build connections.
Reflecting on the visit, Health & Wellbeing Practitioner, Nigel Plant, said: “Many of our participants are living with life-changing or life-altering conditions.
“The respite and support they get from our sessions are incredible. To bring them to The City Ground and give them such a unique experience—meeting legends like John McGovern and current players like Harry Toffolo—was truly special. For many lifelong fans, it was a dream come true.”
This visit underscored the power of football to bring communities together and reinforced the Trust’s mission to enrich lives. For more information about Healthy Horizons or Memory Club, contact Nigel.plant@nottinghamforest.co.uk or Ian.richardson@nottinghamforest.co.uk.
