Nottingham Forest Community Trust played host to a dynamic Premier League Inspires event, turning the City Ground into a hub of literary discovery. 

In collaboration with the National Year of Reading initiative and the National Literacy Trust, local pupils from The Redhill Academy and Denewood Academy stepped away from the classroom and into the City Ground to explore the transformative power of books.

The event featured a series of interactive workshops designed to break down barriers to literacy. By focusing on the sheer enjoyment of storytelling and the practical importance of reading in everyday life, the sessions aimed to spark a newfound curiosity in the young participants.

To bridge the gap between sport and study, pupils were treated to a full stadium and museum tour. Walking the same space as their sporting heroes provided a unique backdrop for the day’s message: that literacy is a key teammate in achieving any dream.

Jordan Ferrer, Schools Manager at Nottingham Forest Community Trust, said: 

“We are thrilled to host this event at the City Ground. By bringing the National Year of Reading to life in such an iconic setting, we hope to show these pupils that the passion they feel for football can be mirrored in the pages of a book.

Seeing their faces light up during the stadium tour and then seeing that same engagement in our literacy workshops is exactly what the Premier League Inspires programme is all about.”

Premier League Inspires is a personal development programme, funded by the Premier League through the Premier League Foundation. The programme uses the power of football to inspire young people aged 11-18 to develop the personal skills and positive attitudes needed to succeed in life.
