Freddie reports for duty with First Team

Freddie, a passionate footballer and huge Forest fan recently had a day he’ll never forget.

Thanks to Nottingham Forest Community Trust and Nottingham Forest Football Club, Freddie, in recognition of his positive attitude, was given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend the Nigel Doughty Academy and interview the club’s first-team players.

His behind-the-scenes experience was filled with excitement as he asked players questions and got an exclusive look at what goes on during the squad’s media sessions.

Freddie’s journey to this special moment all started with his involvement with the Premier League Primary Stars programme, delivered at his school, Coddington C of E, by Nottingham Forest Community Trust.

Premier League Primary Stars is the Premier League’s primary school education programme. Funded by the Premier League through the Premier League Charitable Fund, the programme uses the appeal of football to help children be active and develop essential life skills.

The Trust has worked closely with Freddie’s school for over five years, delivering Premier League Primary Stars, enabling pupils to learn about in teamwork, respect, and resilience.

Freddie’s engagement with Nottingham Forest Community Trust has grown beyond the classroom.

In June 2024, Freddie’s school represented Nottingham Forest at the Premier League Primary Stars Tournament held at Brentford FC’s Gtech Community Stadium. Competing against schools representing Premier League clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Brentford, Freddie and his team-mates had the chance to showcase their skills and experience the thrill of competing for their beloved club.

Beyond his school’s achievements, Freddie is also a regular participant in the Nottingham Forest Official Soccer Schools and Goalkeeper Development Sessions, which have further developed his skills both on and off the pitch.

Reflecting on the impact the Community Trust has had on his football journey, Freddie said, “It’s good, very exciting. I like Nottingham Forest coming in [to my school] and I support Nottingham Forest. It is inspiring to say that I have basically played for my team.

“I think the Soccer Schools are good because you get to play football for the day and with mates you don’t necessarily see in school. The goalkeeper sessions have helped develop me, and I also play outfield, which has also helped develop my skills.”

Tom Norton, Schools Manager at Nottingham Forest Community Trust said, “We’re thrilled to see Freddie’s enthusiasm and growth through his experiences with Nottingham Forest Community Trust and the Premier League Primary Stars programme.

“This education initiative, funded by the Premier League, brings unique opportunities to young people, allowing them to not only develop essential skills on and off the pitch but also create unforgettable memories.

“Seeing Freddie represent Nottingham Forest at the Gtech and then have the opportunity to interact with first-team players is a testament to the effort and determination he has put into his school work.”
