Nottingham Forest Community Trust Reaffirms Commitment to Local Veterans Through Forest Forces Programme
On this Remembrance Sunday, Nottingham Forest Community Trust is proud to reaffirm its commitment to supporting local veterans through its Forest Forces programme, which provides tailored opportunities for veterans to connect, improve their wellbeing, and build lasting friendships within the Nottinghamshire community.
The Forest Forces programme offers a range of activities designed to support veterans’ mental and physical health, combat social isolation, and provide meaningful opportunities to give back through community initiatives. From regular social gatherings to wellness and fitness sessions, the programme aims to create a positive, supportive environment for veterans adjusting to civilian life.
This renewed commitment comes as the Trust recently secured additional funding from the Veterans’ Foundation, an organisation dedicated to helping British ex-service personnel by providing financial support to charities and initiatives that assist veterans across the UK.
The Veterans’ Foundation purpose is to raise funds and give grants to charitable organisations that support serving and former members of the armed forces, and their dependants, who are in need.
The Veterans’ Foundation is one of the country’s leading military charities. It was set up in 2016 to raise funds to help charities provide vital support to our armed forces’ community.
These include those serving, veterans and their families with a range of needs, including mental health, physical therapy and rehabilitation, homelessness, education, and training.
Since 2016 the Foundation has raised more than £23 million and awarded 1,100 grants to more than 450 small and medium-sized charities and charitable organisations that deliver life-changing projects across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Calum Osborne, CEO of Nottingham Forest Community Trust, commented, “Supporting our veterans is an essential part of what we do at the Community Trust. Through the Forest Forces programme, we’re able to offer a community that empowers veterans, helps them overcome isolation, and connects them with others who have shared similar experiences. Our veterans have served us all, and this is our way of saying thank you and helping them find renewed purpose in civilian life.”
The Veterans’ Foundation’s Grants Manager, Sarah Kelling, said: “We recognise the importance of sport and exercise for the wellbeing of all, and appreciate the commitment of this Trust to our armed forces community.
“We are delighted to help fund its vital work that ensures our veterans feel valued and supported in their local community.”
With this support from the Veterans’ Foundation, Nottingham Forest Community Trust is committed to expanding the reach and impact of Forest Forces, ensuring veterans in Nottinghamshire have a reliable and supportive network to lean on.
