Nottingham Forest Participates in World’s Largest Walking Football Tournament for People with Parkinson’s

Nottingham Forest Community Trust took part in the Sport Parkinson’s Walking Football Tournament on Saturday 19th April at St. George’s Park, home of the Football Association and England’s national teams.

The event is recognised as the world’s largest Walking Football tournament specifically for people living with Parkinson’s, bringing together 24 teams from across the UK. The teams were split into two leagues, with 12 teams competing for the Shield and 12 for the Trophy.

Forest performed strongly in the group stage for the Shield, finishing top of their group with four wins and one draw. They progressed to the semi-finals, where they were narrowly defeated by Arsenal Foundation in a penalty shootout.

Nottingham Forest Community Trust’s team was made up of participants from the Neuro Walking Football sessions, which are designed to support physical activity, social interaction, and wellbeing for people with neurological conditions.

Colin Cook, Walking Football Coordinator at Nottingham Forest Community Trust, said:

“The players did exceptionally well, and topping the group unbeaten is a great achievement.

“The event provides a valuable opportunity for participants to engage in competitive sport in an inclusive environment.

“We’re proud to be involved and will continue to support our players through programmes like Neuro Walking Football.”

Steve Moss, Nottingham Forest Neuro Walking Football Participant, said:

“The Nottingham Forest Community Trust Neuro Walking Football sessions offer people who are living with neurological conditions a safe place to enjoy exercising with other people who understand the challenges we face”

“I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s fourteen years ago. Unfortunately, some of my symptoms are impacting my ability to walk as well as slower cognition.

“So it might seem ironic or laughable to imagine playing walking football, but when I get onto the pitch, it is a great feeling, which improves my mood.

“Keeping as active as possible is so important for people with Parkinson’s and the sense of belonging that we get from playing walking football is fabulous.

“Last weekend on Easter Saturday I was fortunate enough to be part of the Nottingham Forest Community Trust team that went to play in the 2025 Sport Parkinson’s cup competition held at St. George’s Park.

“We were so proud to put on the Forest kit and we played well,  winning four of our five group games without conceding and drawing one against the eventual winners of the shield who ended up top of our group on goal difference.

“As second-placed team, we faced the winners of the other group,  the Arsenal team who had won all five of their group games in the semi-final.

“It was a very tight game, which ended nil-nil, and so it was decided by a penalty shoot out which Arsenal won.”

“Nevertheless, we are all so proud of our efforts and enjoyed a fantastic day at the world’s largest walking football tournament for people with Parkinson’s.”
