Premier League Kicks Tournament Sends Local Talent to Next Stage
Young people from across Nottinghamshire came together for an action packed Premier League Kicks tournament delivered by Nottingham Forest Community Trust, with local pride and progression on the line.
Teams representing delivery areas including St Ann’s, Forest Fields and Sneinton went head to head in a series of fast paced, competitive fixtures. The standard of football was high throughout, with players showcasing their technical ability, teamwork and resilience in a positive and supportive environment. For many, the tournament was a rare opportunity to test themselves against peers from different parts of the city while proudly representing their local community.
The winning team will now go on to represent Nottingham Forest at a regional tournament, where they will face sides representing clubs including Leicester City and Derby County, alongside other professional club community organisations. The winners of the regional stage will then progress to compete against fellow regional champions at the national Premier League Kicks Cup later this season.
The tournament forms part of the wider Premier League Kicks programme, a flagship initiative funded by the Premier League. Premier League Kicks offers free football sessions and positive engagement opportunities for young people aged 8 to 18 in areas of high need.
Locally, Nottingham Forest Community Trust delivers regular Premier League Kicks sessions across Nottinghamshire, creating safe and accessible spaces where young people can play, develop and build positive relationships. Sessions are supported by qualified coaches and youth mentors who act as trusted role models, offering guidance both on and off the pitch.
Stefan Furgala, Community Engagement Coordinator at Nottingham Forest Community Trust, said: “Premier League Kicks continues to have a huge impact on young people across Nottinghamshire. The growth of the programme and the level of engagement we are seeing week in, week out is testament to the relationships our staff build in communities.
“To now offer a clear pathway from local tournaments to regional competition, and potentially the national Premier League Kicks Cup, is a fantastic opportunity. Representing Nottingham Forest against other professional clubs is something our young people are incredibly proud of and it gives them a real sense of aspiration.”
The impact of the programme goes far beyond football. By providing structured activity during peak times, Premier League Kicks helps reduce anti social behaviour and supports improved wellbeing. Participants develop confidence, leadership skills and a stronger sense of belonging within their community, demonstrating how the power of football can create opportunities that extend well beyond the final whistle.
