Young People Serve Up Support for Nottingham’s Homeless
Participants from Nottingham Forest Community Trust’s Premier League Kicks programme have been making a difference in their community through an inspiring social action project.
As part of the Premier League Kicks programme, participants visited Working Man’s Kitchen, a popular pizzeria based in Sneinton Market, Nottingham, where they rolled up their sleeves to prepare fresh meals for the local homeless community. Together, they created hearty dishes including chicken curry and vegetable chilli, which were later distributed to those in need through partnerships with local homeless organisations.

The young people were specially selected for their consistent attendance and positive engagement in regular Premier League Kicks sessions. With GCSEs now behind them, they chose to dedicate their time to supporting their community and giving back through this social action programme.

Braydon, one of the participants, shared:
“It’s been great to help people in need, especially those who are struggling and to make and give them food. It’s been really good.”

Caleb added:
“I have had a great time cooking; now we are looking forward to handing out the meals. I’ve also learned new skills along the way.”
Another participant also reflected on the experience:
“It’s been fun to come down and spend time at Working Man’s Kitchen. Learning how to cook and knowing it’s going to help the homeless has been amazing.”

Paddy Sneath, owner of Working Man’s Kitchen, praised the group’s efforts:
“We’re always happy to work with Forest. The young adults who joined us were a pleasure to have in the kitchen. They were engaged, eager to learn, and hopefully these cooking skills will stay with them as an important life skill.”
This collaboration not only provided warm, nutritious meals to vulnerable people but also gave participants the opportunity to develop practical skills, teamwork, and a sense of responsibility.
Stefan Furgala, Community Engagement Coordinator at Nottingham Forest Community Trust said, “Premier League Kicks isn’t just about playing football. The programme supports young people to realise their potential and give back to their communities.
“It’s great to see our participants dedicate their time after finishing school to support others, develop new skills like cooking, and make a difference.
By working closely with local companies like Working Man’s Kitchen, we can provide hands-on opportunities that benefit both the young people and the wider community.”
