Forest Forces Visit the BBMF Centre
Members of the Forest Forces programme recently enjoyed a memorable visit to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) Visitor Centre at RAF Coningsby, Lincolnshire. The day offered a unique opportunity to get up close to some of the most iconic aircraft in aviation history and gain insight into their preservation.
The highlight of the visit was a comprehensive guided tour of the hangar. The group was led by an experienced guide, many of whom possess firsthand knowledge of the aircraft and the BBMF’s operations, who provided fascinating details about the history and significance of the legendary fleet.

The group was able to observe some truly legendary aircraft, including several Spitfires, most notably the P7350, which holds the prestigious title of being the oldest airworthy Spitfire in the world. They also saw the powerful Hurricanes and the versatile Chipmunk training aircraft.
The PA474 Lancaster Bomber stood out as a focal point, its imposing presence a humbling reminder of the bravery and sacrifices made during World War II.
Speaking about how impactful the trip was, Brian Dacunha, Forest Forces Coordinator at Nottingham Forest Community Trust, said:
“It was incredibly moving to see these magnificent aircraft and to hear the stories from the guides, many of whom have such a personal connection to them. Standing next to the Lancaster and the P7350 Spitfire, you truly feel the weight of history. It was a brilliant, insightful day for the Forest Forces veterans, offering a valuable connection to our shared heritage and the dedication of the RAF personnel.”
The visit provided the Forest Forces members with a tangible link to aviation history and the incredible efforts involved in keeping these priceless aircraft flying.
