Tricky to Talk

Tricky to Talk is Nottingham Forest Community Trust’s mental health and wellbeing programme.
Tricky to Talk is a valued programme provided by Nottingham Forest Community Trust, linking into our ambition of health and wellbeing at heart of what we do. Nottingham Forest FC, the Community Trust and football in general are powerful mechanisms to lean into to raise awareness, reduce stigma around mental health.
Tricky to Talk hubs are relaxed, informal spaces, where you can talk to others who may be experiencing difficulties with their mental health, share your experiences and receive advice and guidance on how to manage thoughts and feelings.
Our hubs serve as an ‘open door’ to wider community support, we therefore introduce a range of guest speakers to connect attendees with a range of additional support services.
We welcome individuals from all backgrounds across the county, regardless of football allegiance.
Tricky to Talk provides the opportunity to meet others, talk through management strategies and engage in mindfulness activity. Tricky to Talk is not a clinical or crisis intervention service, we work with, and signpost to the following services should you find yourself in crisis or in need of emergency services:
– Nottingham Crisis Line: Freephone 0808 196 3779
– Text SHOUT, to 85258
– Samaritans Call 116 123
– SANE line on 0300 304 7000
Our duty of care to community engaged in any programme we deliver, where we witness a safeguarding concern or witness an expression of ideology or intended behaviour, initially extends to logging a note on our confidential recording system MyConcern. We publicise this approach on our website here.
Tricky to Talk Community Partners
The Wolfpack Project
The Wolfpack Project, a youth charity situated in Nottingham, is dedicated to providing vital support for young individuals aged 16-35 across Nottinghamshire. Their mission centres on delivering assistance for mental health challenges and addressing the pervasive issue of loneliness within this demographic.
The Wolfpack Project was established to combat the substantial, growing issue of youth loneliness as a serious public-health problem of our time.
Nottingham Forest Community Trust is proud to announce a new partnership with The Wolfpack Project as part of our Healthy Goals initiative, a programme designed to support mental wellbeing through physical activity.

Bottled Up Blokes: BUB Hubs
To acknowledge the importance of addressing the mental health concerns of men, we’ve partnered up with Bottled Up Blokes to deliver BUB Hubs.
These are open to men aged 18 and above and will take place on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the John Godber Centre in Hucknall and are available on a walk-in basis, no booking required. By creating a comfortable and understanding environment, these sessions encourage open dialogue about mental health, helping participants feel supported on their individual paths to wellbeing.

NHS Nottingham & Nottinghamshire Talking Therapies
Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Talking Therapies is a free and confidential NHS service designed to help with common mental health problems such as stress, anxiety and depression. Anyone aged 18 years or over and registered with a GP can access support, though a GP referral is not necessary as you can self-refer.

Sands United: Football for bereaved dads
Sands United is a unique way for bereaved men to come together through a shared love of sport, find a community, and feel at ease talking about their grief when they’re ready.
We know that it can be a struggle to talk about how you’re feeling after the death of a baby. We hope that by building trust and a common bond, by playing together as a team, many more will be able to break the silence about baby loss and help others to do the same.
The Sands United FC community is run by volunteers. Sands United teams are safe spaces for men of all abilities and football skill to join with others and find community in this special place we call Sands United.

Hollie Olding: Nottingham Forest Mental Health Ambassador
In 2025, Nottingham Forest and Nottingham Forest Community Trust announced Hollie Olding as ambassador for the Tricky to Talk programme.
Throughout her time at Nottingham Forest, Hollie has been instrumental in raising awareness and showing support to our Tricky to Talk programme.
