Walking footballers reach the nationals
We are thrilled to announce that the Nottingham Forest Walking Football Team, in their debut appearance, has secured victory in the Over 60s Regional Walking Football Tournament. They are now gearing up to represent Nottingham Forest in the highly anticipated National Finals, set to take place this Saturday, September 16th, at the University of Nottingham.
Entering the regional tournament for the very first time, the players representing Forest defeated teams from Birmingham, Solihull Moors and Norwich, securing their spot in the National Finals where they will compete against teams from Bolton, Norwich, and Wakefield.
Their remarkable journey emphasises the inclusive nature of walking football, offering players of all abilities a chance to put on their boots, step onto the pitch, and proudly represent Nottingham Forest.
Although there is a precedent for representing Nottingham Forest, the primary focus of the walking football programme lies in the holistic advantages of engaging in this growing sport.
Walking football is not just a game; it’s a community, a lifestyle, and a source of immense joy. This form of football, designed to be played at a slower pace, has numerous benefits for players, especially those in the over 60 age group. Here’s why walking football is making waves in the world of sports:
Physical Health: Walking football encourages regular exercise, improving cardiovascular health, stamina, and muscle strength. It’s a fantastic way to stay active and fit, irrespective of age or fitness level.
Mental Well-being: Participating in team sports like walking football boosts mental health by reducing stress and promoting social interaction. It fosters a sense of belonging and camaraderie among players.
Skill Refinement: Walking football isn’t just about pace; it’s about finesse. Players develop and refine their ball control, passing, and decision-making skills, proving that football remains a beautiful game at any speed.
Fun and Friendship: Above all, walking football is about having fun and building lasting friendships. It’s an opportunity to relive the excitement of the beautiful game in a relaxed, supportive environment.
