Fun, food and support

Nottingham Forest Community Trust proudly delivered another successful round of its Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) sessions, offering dynamic and enriching activities at multiple venues across Nottingham.

Designed to support children and families during school holidays, these sessions provide an engaging blend of fun, learning, and nourishment.

HAF

What is HAF?

The Holiday Activity and Food programme is a government-funded initiative aimed at ensuring children from low-income families have access to healthy meals and enriching activities during school breaks.

Nottingham Forest Community Trust plays a key role in bringing this initiative to life in the city and county through funding from Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council respectively, working tirelessly to support children who might otherwise miss out on such opportunities.

The Benefits of HAF

HAF sessions offer more than just a meal. They create a positive and supportive environment where children can:

  • Engage in physical activities like football and urban hockey, promoting fitness and teamwork.
  • Explore their creativity through arts and crafts, drama, and dance.
  • Build social skills and confidence in a safe and secure setting.

For parents and families, the programme provides peace of mind, knowing their children are safe, active, and engaged while they managed work or other responsibilities.

Additionally, the access to nutritious meals alleviated financial pressures for families during the school holidays, when food costs could become particularly challenging.

Enriching Activities Delivered by Local Partners

To deliver an exciting and varied programme, Nottingham Forest Community Trust partnered with local organisations to offer specialised sessions. These collaborations ensured that every child had the opportunity to try something new, develop their talents, and enjoy their holiday in a meaningful way.

Making a Difference in the Community

The impact of HAF sessions extended far beyond the children who attended. By creating opportunities for social interaction, physical activity, and creative expression, Nottingham Forest Community Trust contributed to building stronger, healthier communities. Parents reported feeling less stress and more connected, knowing their children thrived in a supportive environment.

Tom Norton, Head of Programmes at Nottingham Forest Community Trust, reflected on the success of the programme: “The HAF sessions have had a tremendous impact on families across the city.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to see children not only enjoying themselves but also gaining valuable skills and experiences.

“For many parents, these sessions provided much-needed relief and support during a challenging time.”
